SAMA affirms a simple truth:
when you are young and starting with limited resources, what you control first is conduct.

Across much of the Global South, access to capital, networks, or credentials is not immediate. What begins immediately are daily choices - discipline, reliability, standards held consistently over time.

The standards practiced quietly and repeatedly that accumulate into credibility, trust, and long-term success.

 The Mission

SAMA elevates habits as cultural capital.

SAMA brings public recognition to these standards, reinforcing them as cultural benchmarks for the next generation. By distinguishing habits before outcomes, SAMA strengthens the behavioral foundation upon which long-term economic participation and leadership are built.

Throughout the year, Big Sister Africa reinforces these standards through its youth media platform. SAMA serves as the annual cultural distinction that publicly affirms them.

SAMA Community Awards 2025

The first edition took place in Senegal.
Youth from the community were recognized for the standards they upheld throughout the year.

How Distinctions Are Determined

Throughout the year, standards practiced within the Big Sister Africa network are observed.

At the close of the cycle:

Community members cast their votes recognizing individuals whose conduct consistently reflects the standards upheld by the initiative.

The Youth Advisory Board reviews and validates ensuring nominations align with the values and criteria established for the distinction.

Local experts review and confirm final distinctions providing independent perspective and safeguarding the integrity of the process.
This multi-layered approach reflects collective governance and sustained engagement across the ecosystem.

The Transmission Award

Each year, the Big Sister Africa community honors one local expert for their influence and example within the community.
The Transmission Award recognizes sustained mentorship - the passing of discipline, craft, and lived standards to the next generation.
