overview

We help youth understand their bodies, health, and wellbeing through content that feels honest.

Health Literacy at Big Sister Africa
We teach young people how to understand their bodies, their wellbeing, and the everyday health choices they face, through conversations that feel relatable, culturally respectful, and grounded in their lived realities.

Our goal is to help Francophone Africa’s youth build confidence around topics that are often surrounded by silence, from mental health to hygiene, nutrition, relationships, and bodily autonomy.

We break down complex ideas into simple, practical lessons that support their physical and emotional wellbeing.
HOW WE TEACH IT

Healthy decisions start with understanding – and that begins with content grounded in real life.

For many young people in Francophone Africa, basic health education is either inaccessible or taught in ways that feel distant from their lived experience.

This creates uncertainty around essential topics, puberty, mental health, nutrition, bodily changes, consent, hygiene, and how to seek help.

When information isn’t clear or culturally relevant, young people are left to navigate these challenges alone.

Our Health Literacy programs break down these barriers with relatable lessons that help youth understand themselves, communicate clearly, make informed choices, and build lifelong wellbeing habits.

Through expert guidance, peer discussions, and storytelling rooted in the realities of the Global South, we help youth feel confident, safe, and supported as they make decisions about their bodies and health.
